Stage 1
There was a tiny egg on a milkweed leaf, inside the jar.
Stage 2
Soon a caterpillar came out of the egg. It is called a larva. It ate the eggshell.
Stage 3
The larva ate fresh milkweed leaves. It grew larger and larger.
Stage 4
The larva stopped eating. It did a funny thing.
Stage 5
The larva made a hard shell house around itself. It is called a pupa.
Stage 6
Time went by. One day a butterfly came out of the pupa. It is a beautiful Monarch butterfly. Magic!
