Australia is now home for about 2000 Hmong from Laos. They are one of the newest and smallest ethnic group of the 18 million Australians. The former Prime Minister, the Hon. R.J.L. Hawke, summed up the first decade of the Australian Hmong as follows:
"Hmong Australians are one of the most recently arrived groups in this country.
Their number is, of course, small but their courage in seeking to take their place in our community, the contribution they have already made to our society and the welcome diversity their culture has added to the Australian way of life are out of proportion to their size."
This page contains some specific information about this small group as well as some general background information about the Hmong.
As this page is updated every quarter, you can always check What's New to get the new material or any news on the Hmong in Australia. We will try to keep you up to date.
A special thanks to all the contributors, especially Dr. Gary Yia Lee, for their kind permisions to make available their excellent works as part of the WWW Hmong Homepage.
