Gary Y. Lee is a Hmong from Laos and lives with his family in Sydney, Australia. He is a founding member of the Hmong-Australia Society and he has been involved in settlement work among Lao and other Indochinese refugees since 1976.
He has degrees in social work and a Ph. D. in anthropology. He is currently a senior liaison officer with the Ethnic Affairs Commission for the State government of New South Wales, Australia where he works mainly with Indochinese and other Asian groups.
He is one of the most distinguished Hmong scholar who has researched and published on Laos refugees , and on the Hmong in Laos ( The Hmong in the Lao State, Minority Policies and the Hmong ), Hmong in Thailand and crop replacement project; and the Hmong settlement in Australia and many papers on Hmong clans, kinship structure, history of opium , The Religious Representation of Social Relationships and more.
