Invitation to Seminar on Miaozu Nationality in Hubei Province and Study of Miaozu Nationality in the 21st century

Hubei Province was once the principal living region for the predecessors of Miaozu Nationality and is still one of the major distributions for the Miaozu Nationality in China . The study on Hubei's Miaozu Nationality has for long been relatively backward for many reasons such as history and culture, thus becoming to some extent a missing link in developing in depth the study of Miaozu Nationality . At the end of 1999, the publication of Hubei's Miaozu Nationality, which was written by the researchers of Hubei Institute for Nationalities has somewhat changed such a situation for the better. However, the Miaozu Nationality in Hubei Province needs to be further studied and the development of the study of Miazu Nationality in the 21st century remains to be inquired into in a concerted effort. For this purpose, We plan to convene a seminar on Hubei's Miaozu Nationality and the study of Miaozu Nationality in the 21st century and we take pleasure in inviting you to be present at the conference at the turn of this century. You are informed of the following matters relating to the conference.

I. The Theme for the Conference and Some Topics for Discussion.

Theme: Hubei's Miaozu Nationality and the Study of Miaozu Nationality in the 21st century.

Topics for Discussion:

  1. The origin and development of Hubei's Miaozu Nationality.
  2. The cultural inheritance and change of Hubei's Miaozu Nationality.
  3. A cultural comparison of Hubei's Miaozu Nationality with that of Hunan Province, Guizhou province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipality.
  4. The relationship between Hubei's Miaozu Nationality and its neighboring nationalities.
  5. The role of Hubei's Miaozu Nationality, then and now.
  6. The significance of the study of Hubei's Miaozu Nationality on the study of Miaozu Nationality.
  7. The significance of the study of Miaozu Nationality on the development of Miaozu Nationality.
  8. The strategy of Westem Development and the development of Miaozu Nationality.
  9. The study of Miaozu Nationality of the past century in retrospect and its prospect.
  10. Others.

The Date, Place and Registration

Date: Oct 16-18, 2000 (three days)
Place: Academic Building, Hubei Institute for Nationalities, Enshi City, Hubei Province.
Registration: Oct.15 (the whole day) is the time for registration. The place for registration is in Exi Hotel, Enshi City, Hubei Province .Participants will be received at xujiaping Airport on the current day. Those who cannot be present at the confrence in time shall inform the secretariat of the conference in advance so as to be met at the appointed place.

Papers and Requirement

Papers: The paper submitted to the conference is to be emailed to the secretariat of the conference to plan the academic exchange for the conference and the edition of the papers after the conference. The paper written in English is to be translated into Chinese by the author him/herself. If the paper is written in Chinese, the author is to translate the title of the paper and the author's name into English so as to arrange the English catalogue in editing the colloquia.

Requirement: Participants are to fax as soon as possible the following to the secretariat of the seminar: photocopy of the parsport , educational background, work experience, the title of the paper. Then get in touch with the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country so as to secure the visa at an early date. Ⅳ. Conference schedule ,Expenses and Liaison Conference schedule: During the three days of conference, a visit is to be paid and a national theatrical performance is to be staged. The rest of the time will be dedicated to academic discussion. Expenses: Participants are to pay U.S.＄80 for the conference. The travelling and accomodation expenses are to be paid by the participants themselves. The other expenses are to be borne by the sponsor. Liaison:
