About the Coordinators

Masami Suga

Masami Suga is Coordinator of the Refugee Studies Center at the University of Minnesota. She holds Ph.D. and M.A. degree in Design, Housing, and Apparel from the University of Minnesota; and a B.A. degree in Anthropology from Macalester College. She has conducted research and outreach activities in the Twin Cities Hmong community since 1990, including recording life histories of Hmong textile artists. She also serves as a consultant to the Goldstein Gallery, Science Museum of Minnesota, and Minnesota History Center on their Hmong dress and textile arts collections.

Bo Thao

Bo Thao is Executive Director of the Womens Association of Hmong and Lao (WAHL), a community-based mutual assistance agency. She holds a B.A. degree in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota. Under her directorship, WAHL provides access to resources to help advance womens status by addressing the needs of family and community while promoting the heart of Hmong culture.
